What is this course?

This course covers how to recognise the different wire rope systems designed or supplied by Hill & Smith, how to interpret their drawings, and the importance of correct post spacing, position, line, and height. It also covers how to replace damaged posts and correctly re-tension systems.

A multiple-choice theory exam, plus a practical assessment including fault-finding and component recognition. Pass mark: 75%. There are no resits — a learner who doesn't pass will need to attend another course.

All potential VRS installers, and installers or supervisors of permanent Vehicle Restraint Systems, who will be completing installation, maintenance, or repair work on any Brifen Wire Rope system.

All potential VRS installers, and installers or supervisors of permanent Vehicle Restraint Systems, who will be completing installation, maintenance, or repair work on any Brifen Wire Rope system.

• Minimum age: 16
• A good understanding of maths, and written and verbal English
