Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
The QNUK Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) is an Ofqual-regulated qualification for individuals who assess vocational skills, knowledge, and occupational competence. Widely known as CAVA, it replaces the older A1 and D32/D33 assessor awards, and qualifies candidates to assess learners in classrooms, workshops, or the workplace. It provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to plan, carry out, and evaluate assessments, and is suitable for both new and experienced assessors.
Different awarding bodies number these three units differently — shown here by name only to avoid any confusion.
Written assignments, practical assessment activities, observation of assessment practice, professional discussions, assessment planning, learner feedback records, and portfolio evidence. Candidates must assess real learners — showing evidence of evaluating at least two different learners performing two separate tasks for both Units 2 and 3 (four assessments in total), supported by a portfolio including assessment plans, feedback records, and observation reports.
There is no numerical pass mark — candidates must meet all assessment criteria, with additional evidence opportunities provided where required.
